ominous black new release on anthropic records-this tuesday!
this is my official press release. share, share, share the psychic doom:
Ominous Black, Self-titled 10”
For release: August 21, 2012
anthropic records is proud to release the limited, self-titled, 2-song 10” record from Philadelphia’s cosmic doom trio, Ominous Black.
Ominous Black began their journey in 2007, deploying lush, doomed, cosmic post-rock mixed with textural psychedelia. Ominous Black have polished their way through four releases, creating a sound and feel that sets them apart. For this fifth release, Ominous Black recruited Evan Pontell-Schaefer of Sadgiqacea to beast the gut-wrenching vocals and heart-pounding drums. This two song release is a testament to where they have been and where they are heading.
The self-titled release is available from anthropic records in white vinyl and black/white marble vinyl. The art was designed by Alyssa Maucere with hand pressed packaging by Reuben Little (Ocean). The music was recorded at Electrical Audio by the mighty Steve Albini and mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering.
Ominous Black will tour US/Canada Fall 2012 and will set out for their 6th Full US tour in Spring/Summer 2013.
What has been said about Ominous Black:
“Equal parts delicate and crushing, they weave together strands of soaring post-rock with crashing cymbals, raw-throated roars, and monolithic riffs, beautifully staining the lot with brushstrokes of psychedelia”-Metal Sucks
“All the Sleep heritage mixed with Neurosis in a sapid and terrific mixture with something of Khanate in the vocal’s approach. There’s even something of the best math-rock (old Don Caballero, not the boring descendants). You see it’s not the usual “let’s doom as others did before us” style”-Forgotten Songs
