grass
Grass is a Philadelphia based band made up of four eclectic members hailing from such bands as Unrest, Mose Giganticus, and Tooth Decay. In a recent review, Stereokiller.com’s Dean Sykes had this to say, “their ability to use riff wizardry to conjure interesting psychedelia through intelligent amplifier and pedal use” about their side of their split LP with Sadgiqacea. The first time I saw Grass, they were playing a show at the MRoom in Philadelphia and I immediately turned to my friend and photographer, Gene Smirnov, and said, “holy shit, this band rules”. I knew right then I wanted to work with them and approached Brooks Wilson at the bar after they played. Soon after, we planned to release a split LP with fellow Philadelphia band, Sadgiqacea.
2012 will bring a new release from Grass, shows and possibly a tour. Stay tuned for more!
Grass has two releases available from Anthropic Records. You can purchase their debut EP and their split LP with Sadgiqacea in the Release section of this site.
REVIEWS:
“The track also features some cool studio psychedelic wizardry like sounds bouncing from left to right speakers that really adds something to the track instead of being a cheap studio effect. Grass are on the one hand, a straight-forward sludge, psychedelic metal act but they also have enough twists in their songwriting to keep the listener guessing…..great band. (9.5/10)-Doommantia
““Chasing Demons out the Holler” starts off much more intense. This song really shows off the stringed instruments and their ability to use riff wizardry to conjure interesting psychedelia through intelligent amplifier and pedal use. They jump right into it and both guitar players use their rigs to provide two complimentary sets of swirls by layering the music just right. The track ends with an extremely crushing part before a really neat sample that sounds great on head phones as it bounces to and from each speaker.”-Stereokiller (5 out of 5)
“I feel sorry for stages and moshers that these guys play for, because if this is indicative of all their stuff (my first time hearing Grass), they destroy shit. Bleeding ears, noses, and knuckles all around”-Funeral Rain (10 out 10)
